A Journey in Mpumalanga, South Africa

If landscapes and scenery are something important to you when making travel plans, then the South African city of Mpumalanga is the destination to set your sights on, literally.  The region is loaded with valleys of mist, flowing rivers and waterfalls, canyons and mountain ranges.  The Blyde River Canyon is the third largest in the world, and this spectacular site is just one of the many.  Outdoor enthusiasts will find much to do in the Bourkes Luck Potholes or the Sudwala Caves.  God’s Window and the Berlin Falls offer hiking and photographic opportunities that are stunning and adventurous.

There is no doubt as to why this city is one of the top tourist destinations.  The gold rush of the 1870’s has left the city with a rich history and a plethora of legends and stories to tell.  Kruger National Park must be on the travel itinerary as it is world renown and surrounded by several wildlife and nature reserves along the west side of the park.  People who make it to Kruger park will have the opportunity for bird watching and fishing, for horseback riding and long hikes.  There is also a section of the park where the Ndebele tribes still live, and taking a walk through this area you will be overwhelmed by the colors of the traditional clothing of the people the myriad of colorfully painted houses and store fronts.

Just outside of the park you will find the forest town of Sabie, a charming spot to stop for a meal and a rest before heading further to the Mac Mac Falls.  And just as with the previously stated sites, the landscape of the falls is photo worthy and incredible.  Taking a swim in the fresh pools at the base of the falls is a great way to refresh and rejuvenate the body and the spirit.  In all of the locations you will find a variety of the best hotels.  South Africa is a beautiful country, and this, the town of Mpumalanga is one of the gems of this area of the world.
