If you have heard how in demand nurses and other medical professionals are right now, you may be considering getting your nursing certification. But what kinds of jobs are available to registered nurses and other medical professionals?
Obviously, many registered nurses work in hospitals and other medical facilities, such as doctor’s offices. The pay is good but the work can be quite stressful, especially in busy hospitals. Often nurses work 12-hour shifts, making three shifts a week (36 hours a week) the typical full time schedule. Night nurses typically get paid higher wages for being willing to work a late shift.
Another common job for nurses and other medical professionals is working in retirement care centers and nursing homes. Nurses are in high demand in these types of facilities, because the patients often need around-the-clock care to bathe, dress, and feed themselves, as well as to get any medical treatment they might need.
Some nurses, however, might prefer to work for a care at home type of business, which sends a nurse to someone’s home to care for them there. Many families choose to get care for their elderly at home, rather than putting them in a nursing home or retirement home. Taking care of someone in their own home affords nurses with a much more relaxing job, not to mention a lot more one-on-one interaction than they would get in a nursing home or retirement home. Plus, you may find that care at home gives you greater flexibility with your schedule, a bonus if you have children or other responsibilities.
There are tons of other jobs for the medical professionals of tomorrow . For instance, you could work as a school nurse, work at a doctor’s office assisting the doctor or working as a receptionist, or work for a blood bank. There are even many jobs to be had in medical billing. Wherever you decide to work in the industry, rest assured that your job security will be high and the pay will be good!
