DUI is a Serious Charge in Arizona

Posted by Dalia

While many people may not even think about it, drunk driving is a serious offense and can possibly hurt a lot of people including yourself. It can also ruin a reputation if falsely accused of drunk driving and may cause some people to lose their jobs . There are a number of really bad consequences of being accused of driving drunk in the state of Arizona. Therefore someone who is being falsely accused should get the best DUI lawyer Arizona has to offer.

For most first-time offenders a drunk driving charge is just a misdemeanor, but there are a number of things that can push that over the edge to being a felony. This can include having two or more DUIs in the last five years, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol while the driving license is revoked (which will add another charge to the list), or having a child in the car with you while you are under the influence. It is actually considered less of a danger to society to let the kid drive the car while you are intoxicated than to drive the vehicle yourself with the kid in the car.

There are a number of rules regulating hearings for people who were driving under the influence and should really be handled by an expert. Even if you are innocent, because these are emotionally charged cases for many people it can be hard to prove your own innocence or the police officer’s mistake without a great lawyer. They will also know little facts like the fact that you have to appeal for a hearing within fifteen days of the incident and they will know if it is better to make sure you are tried in front of a jury of six peers or to waive that right and be tried in front of a judge.

Don’t forget that DUIs are treated like DWI and both of them deal with both alcohol and drugs. The charges that are brought against you are more likely to be more sever if you are driving under the influence of drugs over alcohol though because they are generally illegal substances. The only case in which they are not are prescription drugs and even driving after taking these can be considered driving under the influence, so be careful what you do before getting behind the wheel.
