Grey has a good point about taking advantage of after-Christmas sales and looking ahead. Planning ahead, even a year ahead, is the most practical thing we can do in this economy. By looking at monthly expenses such as apartment rent, car insurance, cell phone, food budget, etc., you can start setting aside money now for the 2012 holidays, rather than waiting until the last minute.

Coming from a large family I have often found it difficult to keep expenses under control during the holidays. One of the biggest things for me is buying early. I start as soon as the after-Christmas sales and watch for things all year long. When you know what you are looking for you can watch for special sales and spread the expense out all year. Also the Internet is a great place to get some really good bargains.
