Primavera, a word meaning fresh. This is the word used to describe the young contemporary artists who are in a show currently, running through November 22, at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art. “Primavera 2009″ is dedicated to the artist who practices the contemporary style with new levels of curiosity and fearlessness. This is a show that features up and coming artists who are under the age of the age of thirty-five, providing them with the opportunity for recognition and exposure.

The show, now celebrating its eighteenth year, was curated by Jeff Khan, who gathered together nine of the most innovative artists from across Australia. The range of the artists included in the show is great, with works depicting emotion and humor. One of the artists is Michaela Gleave. Gleave’s lives and works in the city of Sydney, she is a visual artist who creates incredible installation pieces that address perception. She focuses on how the seemingly mundane, everyday occurrences in nature can test and push the boundaries of the ways in which humans perceive or experience those phenomena. Her tools are rain, ice, light and clouds all contained with architecturally constructed spaces.

Gleave creates illusions that hover over the boundaries between science and art, and operated between the spaces of global happenings and understanding, and one’s own personal experiences. The atmosphere of the planet and the airspace is a backdrop she returns to time and again, and her work often questions the relationships that human have with the world around them. Viewing her work causes one to question oneself and one’s own comprehension of each person’s place within the reality of the world. It is time to book your room at a best Sydney hotel and head to the city, as in just a few short weeks this exhibit will close, and for any art lover, this is a show that should not be missed.
